What's been happening at Heritage?

Year 9 Camp

Year 9 had an absolute blast on our Duke of Ed Dorrigo Camp. Overcoming challenges (one being the bus breaking down on the Waterfall Way on the trip to the campsite), building community through resilience and teamwork. We enjoyed learning new survival skills such as camping and cooking meals on a camp stove, navigating through the beautiful world-renowned Dorrigo State forest and being floored by God's amazing creation as we swam under waterfalls.

Students expressed that camp exceeded their expectations and when we had some discussions around the campfire of their highlight of camp one student said "right now, hanging out with my mates around the fire chatting with all of you".

It was a camp that will be remembered for decades to come.

Year 10 Camp

The Year 10 Camp went off with a bang. We were so blessed with no rain at all, even though all weather reports suggested 3 days of torrential rainfall.

The hike on the first day to West Head went well where all students pushed themselves through the steep climbs and did so with no complaints. The afternoon sail turned out to be a bit of a ‘drifter’, but a lot of fun was had by all.

The hike on day 2, which begins with a very steep set of stairs, didn’t phase the hikers and they loved the spectacular views from the Bible Gardens at Palm Beach. We continued from there along the beach and made our way up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse where we spent 30 minutes soaking up the sun and 360 degree views. The Year 10’s set a good pace on both hikes which was very pleasing to see. The afternoon sail gave students more of an idea of what sailing is really like since the wind reached 15 knots. Some of the students skippered the yachts and gained some valuable knowledge on how to sail.

All meals were delicious having were prepared by students working in teams. Kookaburras were always ready to swoop down and take our food when least expected and the resident Wallabies enjoyed the food of some students who’d left their tents unzipped.

Each night we gathered around the campfire to enjoy a devotion that had been prepared by a teacher and also the mandatory consumption of marshmallows.

The Year 10 Camp was a resounding success and it was always a joy to see the students push through some tough moments and realise a sense of accomplishment.

Mother's Day Morning Tea

Thank you to all the Grandmothers and Mums that came to our morning tea last week. It was a great time to celebrate the significant women in our lives as a school community!

White Card Certificate Training

Eleven Heritage students recently completed their White Card certificate training. This training, in corporation with our school and the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (REIP) and delivered by CHS Training has meant that each student can now confidently enter a construction site aware of safety hazards. A great success story for each student. Well done to all.

2023 Mid North All Schools Touch Footy

Recently, Heritage Christian School entered a team into the local Mid North All Schools Touch Footy championships here in Port Macquarie. Every student demonstrated a Christian character, a yearning to learn, and a team spirit of belonging throughout the day.

Touch Footy is a fast-paced sport where agility, coordination and team skills are important. We entered a team of boys from Years 7-10 into a Yrs 9&10 comp against schools much larger than us. Schools came from Taree, Camden Haven and Port Macquarie. Despite not winning any matches, the boys worked together, encouraging each other and thoroughly enjoyed the day. They should be very proud of the way they kept positive and played as a united front. The team had experienced players who led and encouraged those players new to the sport.

Congratulations to Charlie, Axel, Cooper, Ethan, Braiden, Peter, Kiye, John and Keathan.

A huge thank you to the parents who came to cheer on their boys and to Cam Maxwell who organised a great event.

Year 12 Leaders helping at Year 7 Info Night

Recently, we had our Year 7 Information Night which was a great opportunity for families to explore senior school at Heritage and what we have to offer. Our Year 12 leaders served the school community as they greeted and introduced themselves to all guests throughout the night as they escorted guests around to the classrooms where we had some activities happening. They showed great leadership!
