Heritage Celebrates 40 Years!

We are excited this year to be hosting the 40 Year Celebrations of Heritage Christian School.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone as a community and praising God for His blessings over our School. This year's focus is to honour the past and shape the future as we strive to develop highly capable students of Christian character, ready to serve and enrich the community for the glory of God. It would be our desire that we, as a school community, would be a part of this special occasion together. We also will invite our founding members, previous Board members and Principals along with previous staff and our alumni students, and we encourage anyone in our community to extend this invitation to anyone connected with Heritage.

On Saturday 19 August, from 11am we will gather for a Thanksgiving Service in the Woolshed at the school. This will be a time when we will honour God and those who have faithfully served the school over the last 40 years.

Following this service, from 12:30-4:30pm, we will host a gala afternoon on our school oval, together we will enjoy live music, fun activities for all ages, and a school tour. There will be food and refreshments available for purchase.

Cupcakes Galore!

This week's cupcake competition fundraiser was a huge success. There was a buzz in the air and excited students as the cupcakes flooded into the library to be put on display. We had a high number of entries from both the Junior and Senior school.

The Student Representative Council had a difficult job to judge from such an array of talent and creativity. The winners will be announced at next week's assembly, so stay tuned.

A big thank-you to everyone again for getting involved.

New Flags

Stage 3 students Myra Whyte and Norah I’Anson have been faithfully raising the flags on the flagpoles at the front of the school in Term 2. Having noticed that the flags were beginning to look tired and needing to be replaced, they approached Mr Dures about the possibility of acquiring new Australian and Aboriginal flags. After contacting the office of Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan our school was generously provided with two vibrant new flags. A simple but very much appreciated gesture from our local member.

Stage 3 Excursion to the Glasshouse

Stage 3 were entertained and energised by The Alphabet of Awesome Science at the Glasshouse on Tuesday. To our delight, the performance opened with a fireball and concluded with a bang. 26 experiments expertly conducted in 60 minutes brought to life many scientific concepts such as combustion, chemical change and forces acting on objects. Each awe-inspiring demonstration was woven together with a rich and rare word such as GUMFIATE and SPUMESCENT. We all agreed that it was one of the most LUCIFEROUS and inspiring performances that we have seen. If you get a chance, ask one of our Stage 3 students to describe their personal highlight. Their answer is bound to METAGROBALISE you. Many thanks to Coastline Credit Union for their generous community grant funding which subsidised the costs for our students.

Charles Sturt University Future Moves

The Charles Sturt University team recently visited our school delivering the excellent ‘Future Moves’ program.

This was the second year Future Moves engaged with students from Year 5 through to Year 10. The extremely practical sessions were very well received and covered such topics as Career Dreams, Resilience, Senior School Subject Selection and the Who, What and Why of University.

Swiss Chess Challenge

Yesterday was the day that our high school Chess players had been looking forward to. During our Co-curricular time on Mondays, eager chess players engage in games and learn from each other. We travelled down to Taree to play against students from Manning Valley Anglican College – the same school who we competed against in the state Chess League tournament 3 weeks ago when they travelled to Heritage.

Tables were set up, clock at the side, chess sets all ready to go. Students kept a tally of their wins and losses, matching their skills, finding their next opponent on the same score.

While Heritage students were tentative meeting their opponents, they quickly overcame their nerves as the games began. Competition, friendly banter, encouragement, learning and teaching skills and strategies were the hallmarks of all games. The highlight was the building relationships and enjoying critical thinking opportunities together with new friends. Zac quickly showed his excellence, Lewis renewed old skills, Lachlan shared tactics and loved the chat and Cooper grew in his confidence and skills. We are now looking forward to inviting other schools into our Swiss Chess Tournament late in term 4.

A great day!

Elevate Study Seminars

Recently, our Years 10 and 11 students participated in Study Skills Seminars run by Elevate Education. These sessions are aimed at improving students' study techniques, increasing motivation and confidence, and lifting exam performance. They provide unbeatable advice to students as they go into the all-important senior years of academic study at secondary school. Elevate Education comes with resources and activities informed by over 20 years of research into the study skills and habits that will maximise academic growth and future performance.

Our students were attentive and worked well in these seminars, with many of them reporting back to me that they derived meaningful inputs for future academic success from the sessions. Well done to our Years 10 and 11 students, and I look forward to seeing the great work they will continue to produce going forward.

Student Representative Council

We are so proud of our Senior School Student Representative Council for organising, coordinating and driving our first Cupcake Competition Fundraiser. They have raised almost $800 towards new picnic rugs and lawn games for the school.

A very special thankyou to all our wonderful parents and students who got involved and put in time and effort to produce some incredible cupcakes. The library was bursting with color and creativity...and the smell of sugar!
